Product Description

Ideal for the bassoonist that plays a few concerts on contrabassoon a year! Has a great sound, especially in the lower end. This is a rare opportunity to get a contra of this quality for such a low price.

  • Serial Number: 44
  • Age: Somewhere between world war 1 & 2
  • Condition: Used but good - Very recently been fully overhauled including the bore being oiled
  • Extras: Price includes a NEW Kolbl Roko Contra Gigbag
  • Crooks: Heckel  & Mollenhauer No.2 (both choosen for this contra)

Sound

Has a very warm and rich lower end which in our opinion is better than a newer Mollenhauer. The middle register is good and strong and the contra has a particualrly good high Bb for Ravels Mother Goose! The contra is free blowing and the intonation over most of the instrument is very good.

The sound & projection is good and we recomend this contra for a bassoonist who plays a several concerts a year on contra. This contra is particularly ideal for chamber music.

Condition

It has a worn varnished exterior which looks very classy (this instrument has purposely not been re-varnished due to the very fetching look of the instrument). It has a few small nics and the keywork in places is slightly pitted & worn. All of the keywork works correctly and the interior of the instrument is in a very good condition. Any damage on the instrument is external and does not effect the playability of this contra.
